An American Alligator lies in the shade on a cooler late morning in the swamp. This alligator was the largest out of all of the ones I had seen on my numerous hikes around Bird Rookery Swamp. For every inch between an alligator's snout and eyes, that is roughly how many feet long the alligator is. I estimated the alligator to be roughly 14 feet in length.
Bird Rookery Swamp is known for its 12 mile long hike with an average of 100 or more alligators to be seen if you go at the right time of day and look hard enough on your journey.
