A barred owl rests in the shade while taking a break from a late morning hunt in the shade. Just a few minutes into my hike, a barred owl flew in and landed on a trail marker about 15 feet away from me and proceeded to scan the area for prey. The Barred Owl then flew about 20 feet off of the trail where it landed on a perch to cool down on a perch overlooking a small pond.
