I captured this moment of a burrowing owl father on a cloudy and rainy day. Burrowing owls will perch nearby the burrow to keep an eye out for both prey and predators. The father of this family is usually the one outside of the burrow checking everything out and keeping guard. If danger is spotted, a quick sharp call tells his family to run into the burrow for cover. Because he spends so much time outside of the burrow, his feathers are lighter than the rest of the family after being bleached by the sun... What an incredible father and guardian!!
