Sometimes in order to get the best photos, you have to get wet! When photographing wading and shorebirds a lot of times I have to crawl through sandy shallow water. It can be tough trying to keep the camera dry while moving around just a few inches above the water. Mosquitos, flies and sand fleas are also present to make things a little more challenging.

Willets are often seen alone. They walk deliberately, pausing to probe for crabs, worms and other prey in sand and mudflats, or to pick at insects and mollusks.
