The first hour of life for a hatchling is quite the struggle. Within half an hour of hatching, this snowy plover hatchling was already stumbling around. Parents will call and encourage newborns to walk small distances at a time with many rest breaks. After a couple of rest breaks, the adult snow plover came back to provide protection and comfort. I really loved the wiry fluff of the newborn in contrast to the soft looking feathers of the adult.
